1. Editor’s Note

Welcome back to another issue of The M.I.D Newsletter, where imagination, industry, and intention meet in one place. Whether you’ve been here from the very beginning or this is your first time stepping into my corner of the creative world, thank you for being here. Every month, I aim to deliver something that feels like more than just an update, something that feels like a piece of a much larger story, unfolding quietly but steadily behind everything published under the Minds In Design name.

This month’s issue is a big one. New books, new updates, new insights, new milestones. Minds In Design is moving faster than ever before, and I want to encourage you-yes, you reading this right now, to stay until the very end. I’ve put together a full spectrum of content: writing advice, behind-the-scenes glimpses, December sales, upcoming releases, character insights, and reflections on what it means to create stories that matter.

So settle in. Read it all the way through. Let this issue pull you into the world I’ve spent years building, word by word.

2. About Minds In Design

If you’re new here, welcome to Minds In Design, a creative publishing brand built on imagination, intention, and the kind of storytelling that lingers. Founded and run by me, author Makitia Thompson, Minds In Design is more than a publishing space. It’s where the unseen becomes visible, where quiet ideas grow into fully realized worlds, and where fiction isn’t just entertainment, it’s a doorway into emotion, psychology, and the deeper patterns of the human experience.

I started Minds In Design because I believe that stories should challenge, inspire, haunt, heal, and transform. They should make you feel something you weren’t expecting to feel. They should reshape something inside you, even if it’s small.

Every book I release, every article I write, every behind-the-scenes project I build exists to serve that mission. If you’re looking for a brand that doesn’t follow the common path, doesn’t chase trends, and doesn’t dilute creativity for convenience, you’re in the right place.

3. What’s New in the M.I.D Universe

If you’ve been meaning to stock up on new reads, this is the time. Minds In Design has been moving fast, with new releases, new genres explored, and new emotional territories pushed to their breaking point. Stories are going quickly at mindsindesign.com, and I encourage you to pick up your copies while they’re available.

Here are the newest additions to the M.I.D catalog:

All The Ways We Ruined Us

A haunting, tragic romance tangled in obsession, longing, and the magnetic pull between two hearts destined to collide. Cade Washington and Yasmine Brown burn brightly and destructively, tearing through each other’s lives with a force neither of them can escape. This is a story about the kind of love that becomes a mirror, exposing the darkest corners of who we are. Beautiful. Ruinous. Unforgettable.

I Am Fate

A dark, intimate psychological thriller wrapped in romance and obsession. This story explores the fine line between devotion and destruction, between desire and madness. Victoria is the kind of character you don’t easily forget, her presence echoing long after the final page. Love becomes a haunting. Infatuation becomes a force. And fate becomes something more conscious than coincidence.

When Love Remembers

A lyrical collection of short stories exploring the infinite shapes of the human heart; desire, longing, ache, and triumph. Each story stands alone, yet all are connected through the emotional threads that bind every human experience. If you enjoy quiet stories with loud feelings, this is for you.

4. Where Time Can’t Exist: Series Update

For those of you who have been following my supernatural psychological series Where Time Can’t Exist, I have major updates.

Book Two, The Day That Broke Time, is officially available for preorder as an ebook on Amazon. Set to release on July 27th, 2026, this installment dives deeper into the collapse of time, the unraveling of Burrington’s curse, and the psychological spiral of the characters caught in its web. You can preorder it here:

Readers can also explore five behind-the-scenes companion books, all available on mindsindesign.com. These projects dive into the origins, emotional core, designs, and hidden structure of the series. And if you’re just beginning the journey, all short stories and Book One are also available on Amazon.

This series is growing, not just in size, but in depth, scale, and complexity. Burrington has many secrets left, and the next chapters of this story are going to redefine everything readers think they know about time, memory, and consequence.

5. Writing Tip of the Month

Fiction is not realism, but the best fiction feels real.

If you want to write stories that resonate, that feel lived-in and human, you must anchor them in emotional truth. This doesn’t mean copying life as it is. It means translating something honest; fear, desire, conflict, doubt, regret, into the world of your story.

When building realism inside fiction, ask yourself:

What would a real person do if placed in this moment?

Not the ideal version. Not the dramatic version. The human version.

Let your characters make mistakes. Let them contradict themselves. Let them fail at the exact moment they thought they were strongest. Let their emotions be messy, inconsistent, complicated, and alive.

Readers don’t fall in love with perfect characters. They fall in love with truth wrapped in fiction.

6. Book of the Month: All The Ways We Ruined Us

This month, instead of featuring an outside title, I am choosing my own novel All The Ways We Ruined Us, a book that demanded everything from me as a writer.

Yasmine Brown believed she understood the shape of pain. Then she met Cade Washington.

Their connection is immediate and consuming. They see each other entirely; every fracture, every insecurity, every desire. But this isn’t a clean love story. It’s a story of obsession, of magnetic pull, of two wounded people trying to soothe aches they don’t understand.

They burn. They break. They rebuild. And yet every reunion carries the echo of unresolved damage. Every step forward strains against the weight of their past. Their connection becomes a cycle; intense, familiar, hopeful, destructive.

Some loves save you. Others dismantle you. And some do both, beautifully and brutally, until you no longer know where the beginning ends or where the destruction begins.

7. Makitia’s Writing Corner

Do not throw away the story you think is bad.

Rewrite it.
Polish it.
Reshape it.
Strengthen it.

Every story that feels like a failure is actually a blueprint. It’s the map of your growth, the evidence of your imagination trying to push forward before you had the tools to catch up.

Instead of discarding your earlier drafts, return to them with fresh eyes. Build on what you already created. Expand the scenes that were thin. Deepen the characters that felt distant. Strengthen the moments that fell flat.

Your mistakes are the ladder.
Use every rung.

8. Article of November: Designing Mystery

This month’s featured article dives into one of my favorite subjects: the craft of mystery and its role in capturing attention.

Designing Mystery: How to Hold Attention Through Curiosity explores the psychology behind engagement, how storytelling, business, creativity, and personal projects all thrive when guided by intentional mystery.

Curiosity is not manipulation. It’s an invitation.

This article covers techniques, mindset shifts, and practical methods to build intrigue, keep audiences invested, and create work that leaves a lasting impact.

9. Minds In Design Sales: December Edition

This holiday season, the entire Minds In Design store is 45% off from December 1st to December 31st.

Every title.
Every collection.
Every series.

December is a time of quiet, warmth, and reflection, a perfect time to settle in with a story that grips you, challenges you, or pulls you somewhere unexpected. If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to explore the Minds In Design catalog, this is it.

My goal has always been simple: to make powerful stories accessible. This month is my annual thank-you to readers who support independent authors and original storytelling.

10. Upcoming Projects

The next year of Minds In Design is going to be powerful, ambitious, and transformative. Here are the major projects underway:

Thorton

Gregg Thorton’s self-written memoir: cold, manipulative, calculated, and disturbingly human. A final confession shaped by a man who never felt guilt, only purpose.

The Day That Broke Time

Book Two of Where Time Can’t Exist. A psychological unraveling of time, consciousness, and consequence.

I Am The Unspoken

A deeply personal, emotionally raw story about a woman fighting to reclaim herself after a life-altering ordeal.

These projects represent very different worlds, but all share one purpose: to reveal the unseen corners of humanity through fiction.

12. Parting Words

Minds In Design exists because I believe stories matter, not just as entertainment, not just as escapes, but as reflections of the deepest parts of us. Stories can wound, heal, illuminate, or transform. They can shift how we see ourselves or each other. They can outlive us and still feel alive.

My commitment is simple: to create stories that linger long after the final word. Stories that breathe. Stories that leave a mark.

Thank you for reading Issue #7. Thank you for supporting independent creation. And thank you for allowing my work to become part of your world.

Until next time,
Makitia Thompson
