Do Not Ask - A Poem

They say do not question God
as if questioning is betrayal
and obedience is virtue by default.

They say faith means trust,
but what they practice is compliance.

I was told curiosity was dangerous.
That doubt was the devil’s language.
That asking why
was the first step toward exile.

Strange—
because every tyrant says the same thing.

Do not ask.
Do not challenge.
Do not think too closely.
Follow, and you will be safe.

They dress it up as reverence.
Call it humility.
But humility that forbids thought
is just fear with better branding.

What kind of God
demands silence over understanding?
What kind of holiness
requires submission without consent?

They say His ways are higher.
Untouchable.
Unquestionable.

That logic has justified every cruelty
humans have ever wanted to excuse.

When suffering is labeled “God’s will,”
accountability disappears.
When authority is divine,
harm becomes sacred.

I am not afraid of a God
who can withstand inquiry.
I am afraid of a belief system
that punishes it.

If God is real,
He does not need human enforcers.
He does not need censorship.
He does not need fear.

And if questioning Him
is enough to damn me,
then the problem is not my doubt,
it is the fragility of the throne.

Faith that cannot be interrogated
is not faith.
It is indoctrination.

And obedience without understanding
is not holiness.
It is surrender
to power disguised as love.
